Bengalis hail from the state of West Bengal in India (Kolkata is the state capital), but have spread to different parts of India and the world like other communities.

Most immigrants try to integrate into the country they adopt, but it is important for them to continue with their cherished traditions. We Bengalis are no different. Our way of life here is like a salad mix where each ingredient stands out on its own merit, and contribute to the total flavor.

Through laughter and tears we have built our lives in the US, and though we have not forgotten our roots, we identify ourselves as the American Bengali.
